Mississippi Twin Structures
Arnprior, ON |
Ministry of
Transportation
Ontario Highway 417 Team
Dufferin Construction, Contractor
The Highway 417 bridge project was launched in the fall of
2001, in response to increasing traffic volumes and collisions
on Highway 17, a segment of the Trans Canada Highway running
through the Ottawa Valley, near Arnprior. The project team
faced a difficult task, as the Mississippi River wetland, a
location defined by a number of environmental and geological
obstacles, was determined to be the only viable construction
site. This challenged the design team to develop a structure
able to withstand severe seismic forces.

Sea to Sky Highway Project British Columbia |
BC Ministry of Transportation
Government of BC
As part of Highway 99, the Sea-to-Sky Highway winds its way
through the spectacular Coast Mountains, linking communities
from West Vancouver to Whistler. British Columbia’s Ministry
of Transportation has initiated the Sea-to-Sky Highway
Improvement Project to increase this road’s safety,
reliability and capacity. In addition to meeting the area’s
future traffic needs, the upgrades will also enhance economic
development opportunities in communities along the highway and
in the province as a whole. These efforts to keep traffic
running smoothly will continue until the project is completed
in 2009, in time for the 2010 Olympic Games.

Canadian Consulting Engineering
Leading environmental project wins Schreyer Award is an example of how
the work of consulting engineers is helping to protect
Canada's environment and conserve precious fresh water
resources.
Associated Engineering developed a process to treat wastewater
in the sewage treatment plant so that the treated water could
then be reused by the petrochemical industry. Using membrane
filtration and other technologies, the Gold Bar Industrial
Water Reuse Facility now delivers high quality water to a
Petro-Canada refinery five kilometres away.
